Apartment Salvia - 3 bedrooms, sleeps 4/6
Within the shade of a grape vine pergola, is the reserved outside space for SALVIA, an old stone storage area once used on the farm. It has a splendid view over the park of ‘Il Pozzo’. You can also admire the house where this apartment is located, and above all appreciate the lovely old stone staircase with brick columns, which lead you to the apartment. At the entrance there is the lovely green ‘Sage’ and an atmosphere that takes you back in time to when the peasantry were living here. There is a bench and a table made from straw, which was made by one of the last straw menders from the province, such artisans are unfortunately now slowly dying out. I have to say my favourite piece is the glass cabinet from the late 1800’s, (arte povera) which is found in the living area and the two marble wash basins from the 20’s/30’s located in the two bedrooms, a large double bedroom and a double bedroom This part of the house was constructed in a period after the main farmer’s house had been built; which can be seen from the presence of a stone pediment, typical of an entrance door which was closed when we found it, meaning it had varied in its functions during the course of time.
The all 3 bedrooms have the typical peasantry ‘bandone’ bed in wrought iron which are painted on metal sheet head boards and decorated by in lays of mother of pearl.
*PERENNIAL AROMATIC HERB it is widely used in Tuscan cooking, mainly for the preparation of meat dishes and particularly for roasts. The species with large leaves can be fried, thus being used for an aperitif or starter and is very tasty indeed.
